Autumn leaves

I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of our fellow classmate Ryne Torres. As you recall, Ryne was very active in theater while in high school and continued pursuing it afterward. He was considered a very fine local actor in this area. Our condolences go out to his wife Rose and his remaining family.

A funeral Mass for Ryne Scott Torres, 44, of Lompoc, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at La Purisima Catholic Church, the with Rev. Richard Vega officiating. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Ryne was born
July 10, 1960, in Zaragoza, Spain. He came to Lompoc in 1968 where he made his home for most of his life. He was a 1978 Lompoc High School graduate, where he was deeply involved in many activities including Madrigals, CSF, the newspaper "Smoke Signals" and magazine "Ustani" and, of course, drama. His famous role as Captain von Trapp in the" Sound of Music" at Lompoc High School is still talked about today.

Following graduation, Ryne and worked in commercial production, eventually working for KCOY-TV 12 as a news director. Film and theater fostered Ryne's love of acting and directing. He worked with the Lompoc Civic Theater for almost 20 years, Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera, and was thrilled to participate in an internship with PCPA to perform his love of Shakespeare. He loved film, literature, theater and music. He was loved by everyone and we will all miss him dearly.

Ryne died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Lompoc Hospital, and goes to join his mother, Patricia Torres; brothers, Mark and Joseph; and sister, Cheri Curd.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Torres, and her mother, Helen Popek, and her two brothers and three sisters, all from upstate New York; father and stepmother, Ben and Beverly Torres, of Goleta; aunt and uncle, Betty and Adolf Torres, of Fairfield, Calif.; aunt and uncle, Linda and Rudy Morin, of Madera, Calif; nephews, Brad Curd, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kevin Curd, of Lake Preston, S.D..; and niece, Oaura Brown, of Vacaville, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ryne's name to the Lompoc Dialysis Center, 127 West Pine Ave., Lompoc 93436 or the Lompoc Library (where Ryne volunteered), where donations may be made to the Lompoc Library Foundation, P.O. Box 2833, Lompoc 93438.
